Cultural & Local Customs

  • Dress code: Covering shoulders and knees is recommended for both genders, particularly when visiting mosques, historical sites, or conservative areas. Women may find a scarf helpful for religious site visits.
  • Greetings & Respect: A simple “Shukran” (thank you) and respectful behavior go a long way in daily interactions. “Salam” or “Marhaba” (Hello) can be used to greet locals
  • Photography: Always ask before taking photos of people, especially women or in religious places.
  • Religious Sensitivity: Jordan is majority Muslim — respect prayer times and and religious sites by observing rules
  • Public affection: Keep it minimal, especially outside resort areas.
